Kristen Davis, MS ’04, PhD ’09, joined the Stanford faculty in 2024. An engineer and oceanographer, she is interested in studying how physical processes shape coastal waters—combining principles of fluid mechanics, oceanography, and ecology. Professor Davis leads the Coastal Dynamics Lab at Stanford and has led more than 50 field expeditions to examine circulation in the ocean, its natural variability, and influence on marine ecosystems and human-nature interactions.
On this trip, Professor Davis will lecture on ocean processes and their role in shaping marine ecosystems and sustainability. She will also discuss how climate change is altering the ocean and ecosystems, such as coral reefs and kelp forests, and explore proposed solutions for addressing it.
